What's NFC/MIFARE?

Near Field Communication is a global and widely open standard that forms the foundation of the Internet of Things and enables wearable technology*. NFC allows any service provider, business or industry to offer products, services and applications to consumers all over the world. That ecosystem and the services running on it offer vast potential for global markets and hold great promise for new, very simple and intuitive services that make life for the consumer much easier (e.g. contactless payment, ticketing, physical access, product information, product authentication, identification, bluetooth simple pairing, 2-factor authentication). Simply by waving a NFC equipped object, a phone, a credit card or a wristwatch in front of other NFC-enabled smartphone, tablet, PC, notebook, ultrabook, POS & retail registers, information kiosks, vending machines and thousands of other devices.
